This is a blue-and-white glazed pottery Pythagorean cup, also known as a greedy cup or cup of justice. It has a flared rim, pedestal foot, and a central siphon column.
TESTED with water and working: it holds water up to the upper line of the double fill marking, then drains completely through the base when filled beyond it.
A fun conversation piece with a clever lesson in moderation! A Greek flag emblem accompanies the Greek and English “Wash before using” marking. Maker and exact age are unknown.
Approx. Size: 4 1/4" high x 3 3/4" rim diameter.
CONDITION: Preowned in like new condition with light surface and base wear and normal variations in the glaze. Water-tested; siphon drains completely when overfilled. Please see photos for details.
