This is a rare and enchanting handcrafted Incolay Stone trinket box, hand-signed on the base by the artist Robert Nemith.
Incolay is a famous handcrafted stone product made in the USA (specifically California) using a "mineral-aragonite" process. It is known for its high-relief, cameo-style carvings that mimic natural stone layers like onyx or carnelian.
Design: The lid features a magnificent high-relief carving of a Unicorn in a graceful, mythical setting. Because of the unique Incolay process, the unicorn is rendered in a contrasting "cameo" white/cream tone against a beautifully marbled stone background, giving the scene incredible depth and texture.
Artist: Robert Nemith is a well-known Incolay artist, and his signed pieces are highly sought after for their superior detail and artistic composition. Robert Nemith was a primary designer for a company called Design Gifts International, which collaborated heavily with Incolay Studios.
Location: While Incolay did the heavy lifting of the stone production in California, Nemith's designs were manufactured right there in the USA (specifically California).
Condition: Good vintage condition. The stone is smooth with no chips or cracks.
