This is a vintage straw-marquetry souvenir model of Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow, likely dating to the late 20th century; its exact maker and production year are unconfirmed. Warm amber and brown strips form patterned onion domes, arched windows and layered architectural details over a lightweight structure. The design represents the landmark on Moscow’s Red Square, celebrated for its clustered onion domes.
Approx. Size: 9.5 inches high; base approximately 5.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep.
CONDITION: Good vintage display condition. The intricate straw marquetry remains remarkably intact overall, with light surface wear. The top finial on the tallest tower is missing; the smaller bead finials remain. These projecting details are delicate. The green-gray patterned paper underneath remains largely intact, with light toning and wear along the base edges. A blue-pen mark appears to read 73; its meaning is unknown.
